Beijing Volunteers Attend the Oldest Beijing Olympics Volunteer’s Funeral

  On the afternoon of March 9, the funeral of Mr. Sun Fangchui, Former Chief Engineer of General Office of Broadcasting and Television Design Institute, one of the most prestigious design masters in China, a government-subsided expert and the oldest Beijing Olympics Volunteer, was held in Zhulin Hall of Mt Babao. More than 20 volunteers from BVSGC attended the funeral and expressed deep condolence and reverence for Mr. Sun on behalf of all the volunteers in Beijing.

  In July, 2008, Mr. Sun, 88 years old, was selected as one of the volunteers for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and assigned to serve as an interpreter in the National Sports Stadium Information Center, the oldest volunteer at the Games. Mr. Sun participated in the voluntary services for the Opening Ceremony and 10 Games days with great passion and expertise and was awarded as one of Top Volunteers by Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games National Stadium Venue Operation Team. He was also awarded with a “Certificate of Honour for Volunteers” by the Euro-American Alumni and China Overseas Students Association and the “Voluntary Service Excellence Prize” by the UN. In 2010, Mr. Sun joined the voluntary service for the development of Hetian, Xinjiang, contributing valuable inputs on architectural design.

  Mr. Sun has gone, but his volunteer contribution will never be forgotten. We volunteers and all kind-hearted people in various circles will learn from him and contribute more to the cause of volunteerism in Beijing by promoting people’s awareness of volunteerism and living up to our commitment to the cause.
