BVF Medical Masters Program

  Background

  In 2003, Prof. Hu Dayi launched a medical care volunteer team to help children suffering congenital heart diseases in poverty stricken areas. In April 2011, when the new health system reform entered a critical stage, BVF Medical Masters Volunteer Team was launched by Prof. Hu Dayi with the support of BVSGC, the Chinese Society of Cardiology, Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians, mainly made up of cardiovascular physicians and famous medical experts in other specializations.

  Duration

  1 year from April 2011 to April 2012. (Note: this program will be in test run for the first year and adjusted based on the test run results).

  Implementation Model

  Based mainly on the BVF Medical Masters Volunteer Team, this program will encourage various departments to share and develop resources, and send volunteers to Western China grass-root clinics and rural areas to provide medical relief and voluntary service in poverty stricken areas.

  Content

  (1) Health Awareness Promotion Activities - to promote healthy lifestyles, disseminate health knowledge and practices and increase health awareness among the public.

  (2)Vocational Education for Doctors - medical personnel in Western China and grass-root clinics will be trained and some medical masters will stay in such areas.

  (3)Free Diagnosis, Medical Screening and On-site Treatment - to provide diagnosis and treatment to children suffering congenital heart diseases in poverty stricken areas, promote “green passage” treatment and Chest Pain Center (CPC) Mode for acute myocardial infarction, thus improving treatment effectiveness and reducing death rate and medical cost.
