Registered volunteers in Beijing reach about 3.68 million
This year’s December 5 is the 31st International Volunteer Day. Statistics from Beijing Volunteer Service Federation show that the number of registered volunteers with real names in Beijing reaches about 3.68 million. Participating in voluntary service has become a popular way of life. In the future, Beijing will include voluntary services in citizens’ credit record to encourage them to actively take part in voluntary services.
Beijing has been improving its incentive and safeguard measures for voluntary services, and provided pre-service training and insurance for volunteers. With policy support, more and more units and organizations have launched voluntary programs.
By December 5, 2016, 56,813 groups, 99,895 voluntary programs and 3,679,184 volunteers have registered on the website of voluntary services in Beijing. With 366,821 more volunteers getting registered, the number of registered volunteers is up by ten percent.
It is learned that public cultural places like the Palace Museum and Capital Museum open to outstanding volunteers free of charge at certain times and some performances are also particularly put on for volunteers.
Beijing Volunteer Service Federation expressed that it would explore incentive mechanism to reward volunteers and encourage voluntary organizations to try different incentive measures according to their specific features and resources. Beijing will gradually include voluntary service in one’s credit record in the future. At present, Beijing has shared data about 5-star volunteers with relative departments online to explore new incentive modes together with them.
Since 2013, Beijing Volunteer Service Federation has received 815 volunteer representatives from 50 countries and regions and sent 86 volunteers to over 20 countries and regions to participate in international exchanges. So far the federation has established relations with over 80 volunteer service organizations in over 50 countries and regions. Beijing will also hold the first international volunteer service exchange conference with volunteers from the UN in 2018.
