Mutual Affection and Development of Silk Road: 2017 NGO Beijing International Dialogue and Forum on Youth Volunteer Service for the SDGs Successfully Held

  On September 21st 2017, the 2017 NGO Beijing International Dialogue and Forum on Youth Volunteer Service was co-organized successfully by the Beijing Volunteer Service Federation (BVF) and Beijing NGO Association for International Exchanges. The Forum invited 40 participants from domestic and international organizations including International Association for Volunteer Effort, ASEAN Young Leaders Association, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) and Seoul Volunteer Center. Li Jian, Secretary-General of Beijing Volunteer Service Federation, Chen Bingju, Deputy Secretary-General, Beijing Volunteer Service Federation also attended the dialogue.

  In order to promote NGOs to actively strengthen communication and exchanges with international organizations and deepen mutual understanding through volunteering projects, so the theme of the dialogue was Mutual Affection and Development of Silk Road. The participating guests visited the photo exhibition Beijing NGO under International Perspective and conducted an in-depth exchange with each other on the topics including Promote Sustainable Development with Youth Volunteer Service, Green Development, Coordination and Innovation, International Chinese Teaching Service and Change the Country with the Innovative Technology.

  The Forum on Youth Volunteer Service for the SDGs and Training Seminar for International Volunteers was followed by the topics including Youth Volunteer Service Promote South-South Cooperation and Establishing Multilateral Network of Volunteering Service to Promote SDGs. The representatives of social organizations from ASEAN and Republic of Korea had an in-depth and detailed exchange on the topics including volunteer services, environmental protection, youth education, international cooperation on volunteer services and so on to further clarity the future direction of cooperation between China and foreign side. Secretary Li Jian emphasized that, “Along with deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative, folk organizations will play an increasingly important role in promoting people-to people exchange among countries involved by the “Belt and Road Initiative”. Volunteer services will contribute to expanding influence of folk organizations on the international stage.

  The forum was a full success. The Beijing Volunteer Service Federation, the ASEAN Young Leaders’ Association and the Seoul Volunteer Center signed the MOU of “Jointing Promoting ‘Belt & Road’ International Volunteer Service Development Vision and Action”. In the near future, multi-party cooperation will be deepened in improving construction of the “Belt & Road” International Volunteer Service Alliance, developing international volunteer talents, and accumulating project experiences.

  The social organization representatives attending this “Forum on Youth Volunteer Service for the SDGs and Training Seminar for International Volunteers” were mainly from the “International Volunteer Service Talent Training Class”, “Volunteer Service and UN Sustainable Development Objective Seminar”, and international volunteer service alliances. Through this forum, the Beijing Volunteer Service Federation further expanded its international cooperation channels, deepened its exchange with folk organizations of countries along the “Belt & Road” initiative, and strengthened the role of volunteer service in increasing people-to-people exchange.

  It is reported that the Beijing Volunteer Service Federation has long been devoted to building a platform for international volunteer service exchange. On the First International Volunteer Service Forum held in October 2015, around 95 persons, including heads of volunteer service organizations, government officials, experts and scholars from 27 countries and regions, and five continents, attended. Representatives at home and abroad actively communicated with each other on service experience, existing problems and construction suggestions. On December 2017, the Second International Volunteer Service Forum will be held, aiming at building an international volunteer service network, improving international volunteer service alliances, and propelling people-to-people exchange. All those committed to volunteer service construction and improvement of volunteer service quality are welcomed to participate in this great event.
