BVF Blue Sky Action
Background
Around May 4, 2010, BYL and BVSGC launched the “BYL Care for Migrant Children” Voluntary Service Program. In 2011, BYL launched “BVF Blue Sky Action”, committing to build BYL voluntary service bases in 125 partner schools for migrant children and, based on their actual needs, standardize the service content, form and cycles, and provide resources such as volunteer service, social aid and good practices to the schools, in order to create a better environment for migrant children.
Duration
1 year from March, 2011 to February, 2012. (Note: this program will be regularly run, but the operation cycle is one year.)
Implementation Model
Volunteer teams will pair up with the schools for migrant children and work on a relay basis. Various volunteer activities will be organized every week to ensure effectiveness and establish a long-standing mechanism.
Content
Based on the school schedule, 36 volunteer activities will be carried out this year. Classes after 4pm every Wednesday and hobby groups’ activities will include traditional Chinese classics study, museum visits, growth topic discussion, sports, etc. to support migrant children’s ethical, intellectual and physical development.
(1) Traditional Chinese Classics Study - the young volunteers will lead migrant children in reading “Chinese Humanity Books”, to refine their extra-curriculum education.
(2)Museum Visits - young volunteers will take migrant children to various museums in Beijing to get a closer to Beijing’s culture and history as well as to patriotism, natural sciences and technologies learning and cultural and art influence.
(3)Growth Topic Discussions - the young volunteers will organize and moderate migrant children’s discussions on their own growth problems and concerns in their study and life to help them shape healthy values.
(4)Sports Activities - based on migrant children’s physical conditions and hobbies, the demonstration project “Happy Football”, implemented by BYL, BVSGC and supported by UNDP/UNV will be promoted among migrant children to build up their bodies, teamwork awareness and self-confidence.
