Volunteer Beijing Green Partnership

  Background

  The “Volunteer Beijing Green Partnership” is an initiative jointly launched by the Beijing Youth League (BYL), Beijing Volunteer Federation (BVF), China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Program with the aim to establish a cooperation framework for environmental and volunteer organizations at various levels to integrate resources and promote environmental protection initiatives across Beijing, thus contributing to attain the UN Millennium Development Goal on “environmental sustainability”.

  Content

  Under the framework of the Volunteer Beijing Green Partnership, the “Strengthening Volunteerism for Development through the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games” Project Management Office will pilot the “Green Office” Environmental Assessment Project and the “Green Lessons” Environmental Awareness Project. These two projects will be carried out by volunteers, with the purpose to promote public awareness on energy efficiency and emission reduction in companies, schools and enterprises.

  (1)“Green Office” Environmental Assessment Project - office environmental impact of various organizations will be evaluated based on questionnaires, interviews and walk-through observations. The project outputs will include Environmental Impact Evaluation Reports, Environmental Suggestions and related environmental protection trainings.

  (2)“Green Lessons” Environmental Awareness Project - university volunteers will hold special environmentally-themed classes in primary and middle schools to raise the level of students’ environmental awareness and draw more youth and children to the “Green Beijing” construction mission.
