In October 2015, Common Future research team departed from Holland for Germany to carry out on-site research in Dusseldorf, Bonn, Munich and Berlin. Extensive investigation including visiting local refugee camps and discussions with German NGOs, charities and Ministry of Foreign Affairs came to fruition with a 35 000-word report titled “On Syrian Refugee Crisis.” As the refugee crisis exacerbated, the trail-blazing significance of a Chinese NGO going to the refugee front line and conducting field research caught the attention of mainstream media like Global Times, Sina, Sohu & Phoenix News. Coverage of the story initiated widespread discussion and raised public awareness of the problem.

Common Future team set out towards Turkey to continue the research in Istanbul, Gaziantep, Kilis, Nizip, Sanliurfaspor, as well as Greek cities Athens and Mytilene. From interviews with UN coordination agency OCHA, UNCHR and NGOs that operate in the region came a 30,000-word report titled “Research from the Origin Area of the Refugee Crisis, or Feasibility Analysis on Direct Chinese Governmental and Societal Involvement in Humanitarian Aid of the Refugee Crisis.”

Common Future’s International Volunteer Project of Chinese youth aiding Syrian refugees in Turkey concluded its first phase of 2017. The first volunteers stayed in Turkish-Syrian borderline cities Nizip & Sanliurfaspor for 15 days of volunteer work as well as onsite investigation. During the course of the project, volunteers taught local refugee children courses including Painting & Calligraphy, Turkish and English. They brought home from this journey 45 paintings created by children in the refugee camp.

From July 4th to August 3rd, at two orphanages in Hatay and Gaziantep, Turkey, the second team of volunteers brought their carefully planned cultural and educational lessons to local children. During the month-long project, the volunteers and the children enjoyed creating artwork like calligraphy, painting and handcraft together, as well as playing sports and kung fu. Before departure, Common Future provided the volunteers with a thorough training session, briefing them about the specifics of the program, preparing them for the cultural difference, and ensuring their knowledge of overseas security. This volunteer project once again drew the attention of prominent media like Phoenix News and China Radio International, and videos of it also went trendy through popular social media accounts.
